The CDC estimates about 19 million new STD infections occur each year.

A recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is that all sexually active young people under the age of 25 be screened annually for chlamydia even if symptoms are not present.

Women over the early age of 25 should be screened if they are at risk for chlamydia infection, for example, if they have a new sexual partner or if they have had multiple sex partners.

Some STDs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, and herpes, have infection rates that are highest among teens and young adults and they often don’t have symptoms, so it makes good sense to ask your Doctor or health care provider about screening for them. Also because vaccination is one of the most effective methods for preventing transmission of certain STDs, you might also want to discuss vaccinations for hepatitis A and B with your Doctor or health care provider as well. And young women should have an annual pelvic exam and Pap smear test that can detect abnormal cell changes,
which can be caused by the STD HPV.

National STD Testing provides state of the art STD testing in a very quick and confidential setting.

STD Testing Time Periods

Very often there is a delay between becoming infected and the infection being detectable by testing.  This time period will vary on the infection and the type of testing.

STD Symptoms

Symptoms of STDs may not appear immedietly. In many cases a sexually transmitted disease can be carried with no outward symptoms, increasing the risk of passing the STD on to other individuals.  Symptoms of an STD may include:

  • discharge from the penis or vagina
  • small red bumps, blisters, or open sores on the penis, vagina, or close by
  • fever, heache, and muscle aches
